Jill and I know - we know no memorial, no gestures can fill the void in the hearts they have now or that you - you who have lost someone feel as well.īeing here today and hearing the name of your husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister brings it all back as if you just got that phone call 10 minutes ago. They’re pulled into - it’s as if you get pulled into a black hole in your chest and there’s no way out. No one understands this more than the people sitting in front of me - moms, dads, children, family members - about how those folks in Buffalo feel today when they got the call. Our hearts are heavy once again, but our resolve must never, ever waver. We’re still gathering the facts, but already the Justice Department has stated publicly that it is investigating the matter as a hate crime, a racially motivated act of white supremacy and violent extremism.Īs they do, we must all work together to address the hate that remains a stain on the soul of America.
